The Lake Burien Transitional Care Facility supports youth ages 13 – 17 with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and behavioral health needs.
The facility specializes in psychiatric in-patient care for youth who require intensive behavioral supports and adapted behavioral health treatment. Lake Burien TCF helps residents to foster independence, self-advocacy and growth, with support in community skills and in family settings. The program emphasizes supporting youth in their transition to family homes or long-term community settings by offering escorted outings to build skills in the community.
How we provide care
Treatment focuses on person-centered behavioral health therapies to include group therapy, medication management and assistive technology to aid communication. Lake Burien TCF offers family therapy and works with families to develop targeted interventions for behaviors at home in preparation for transition back into the community.
The core of Lake Burien TCF’s operation is the interdisciplinary treatment team. These disciplines work in tandem to provide comprehensive care to all residents.
The treatment team supporting each youth will include:
Executive medical officer — oversees treatment and ensures physical and behavioral health needs are met.
Clinical director — oversees the clinical aspects of treatment and ensures behavioral health and disability needs are met.
Dietitian — oversees nutrition services and ensures each youth receives a healthy and appropriate diet.
Licensed psychologist — provides individual, group and family therapy to youth.
Nurses — ensure that each youth’s medications are administered appropriately and daily nursing care is received.
Psychiatric youth counselors — provide ongoing active treatment to help the youth build skills and prepare for a successful transition to the community.
Occupational therapist — provides assistance with physical, cognitive and emotional abilities as well as sensory processing.
Psychiatric nurse practitioner nurse practitioner (ARNP) — provides psychiatric services to youth including medication management and crisis intervention.
Psychiatric youth counselors — provide ongoing active treatment to help the youth build skills and prepare for a successful transition to the community.
Occupational therapist — provides assistance with physical, cognitive and emotional abilities as well as sensory processing.
Psychology associate — provides individual and group therapy to youth under the supervision of the licensed psychologist.
Speech language pathologist — provides speech, language and communication services to youth.
Social worker — provides individual, group and family therapy to youth, as well as case management, and support services.
What to expect
Lake Burien TCF was designed with youth in mind. Accessible onsite education services and outdoor recreational space are key features of the facility. LBTCF is built to serve up to 12 youth, who are admitted through their own consent or through a legal guardian’s consent.
