What is Remote Caregiving

Remote caregiving allows certified caregivers to support clients using secure technology. Services are provided through scheduled virtual visits and can include reminders, wellness check-ins, emotional support, and behavior interventions. This model helps agencies reach clients who prefer privacy, live in rural areas, or need extra support between in-person visits.

Who Can Receive Services

Clients must be approved for personal care services through Washington’s long-term care programs. Remote caregiving is appropriate for tasks that do not require physical assistance and for individuals who can use basic technology.

What Support Is Provided

Remote caregiving services are delivered through secure platforms and may be used alone or alongside in-person care. Remote caregivers can assist with tasks that do not require physical assistance, for example:

Daily Support and Reminders

  • Medication reminders.
  • Cues for meals, hydration, and other daily routines.
  • Encouragement to complete tasks like dressing or grooming.

Emotional and Behavioral Support

  • Behavior interventions to help manage moods or confusion.
  • Wellness check-ins to monitor how the client is feeling.

Technology Requirements

Home Care Agencies will use secure platforms to deliver remote caregiving. Through 12/31/2025, Catholic Community Services will work with the clients to obtain, install, and train on all necessary hardware and software to deliver remote caregiving services.

Participating in Home Care Agencies

Through December 2025

Through 12/31/2025, remote caregiving services may be offered through Catholic Community Services during our Remote Caregiving Pilot.  Clients may speak with their case manager to learn more and start the referral process.

Beginning January 2026

Beginning 1/1/2026, licensed and contracted home care agencies in Washington can offer remote caregiving services if they choose to participate in the program. Agencies must meet programming requirements and deliver care using secure technology in order to participate.

Participation in 2026 will be voluntary, and not all home care agencies will be offering remote caregiving. DSHS will be offering training, a toolkit, and more to support interested agencies in delivering remote caregiving services.
