Virtual Support Group

The Washington TBI Council, in partnership with DSHS, offers free Virtual Support Groups, bringing together people living with TBI, families, caregivers and providers. These support groups emphasize connection, education, and community engagement. Note: Support groups offer community and information, not clinical therapy.

Statewide virtual support groups funded by the TBI Council are offered through the Hey Peers platform include:

  • Living with Traumatic Brain Injury
  • TBI Support for Family & Friends
  • TBI Accident Survivors
  • Veteran TBI Support
  • TBI Support for Caregivers & Providers

Additionally, there are many community-sponsored virtual TBI Support groups. While DSHS and the TBI Council do not oversee or manage these support groups, we provide this listing as a valuable resource to the TBI community.

Benefits of Virtual Support Groups after TBI

  • Connect to a group anywhere - Find the best support group for you, regardless of geographical location.
  • You control your experience - You can control the sensory elements of the meeting, like audio volume, video use, captions, taking breaks, having nearby support, etc.
  • Privacy and anonymity - Being online can provide extra privacy and anonymity that isn’t possible with in-person support groups.
  • Accessibility to guest speakers and experts worldwide - Connecting to TBI experts anywhere in the world via an online platform greatly opens educational opportunities.
  • Transportation is not required - Attending a support group from home makes it more accessible to those who are unable to drive or take public transportation easily. It also saves money reducing costs of gas and/or travel.
