ODHH’s Sign Language Interpreter Contracts and Resources Program (SLICR) has statewide contracts available, both with the Department of Enterprise Services (DES) and directly with DSHS, so you can proceed with requesting Sign Language interpreters for access as needed. We also offer resources and consultation.
In order to allow for better language matching, and to increase the probability of booking an interpreter (or team), plan your meetings or appointments in advance whenever possible.
For general Sign Language interpreter requests through the DES contracts, on site or virtually, fill out the general online request form. Due to an increase in requests outweighing the pool of available qualified interpreters, we recommend that you schedule virtual meetings at least 2 weeks in advance and on site meetings at least 6 weeks in advance. (DES contract information - see 02120 and 03919)
Crucial and emergency appointments through the DSHS contract are on site only. The rates are higher, as is the agency booking fee. (contract information)
When it is necessary to schedule a crucial or emergency appointment on short notice (less than two weeks), the process is slightly different and there is a separate request form
For crucial and/or emergency appointments you need to communicate directly with the contractor, and you will need to be flexible with the date and time options. All crucial appointment requests are entered on this emergency or crucial online request form.
When filling out the crucial appointment request, do not add a date and time UNLESS the date and time has been determined through your direct contact with the contractor (agency).
When filling out either online request form (general or emergency/crucial appointment), your administration/division should already have a requestor account which can be found in the form's account drop down list. If you are unsure, please reach out to signlanguageinterpreters@dshs.wa.gov with ACCOUNT in the subject line and someone will help you.
